Our first commentator is Lars Aas from DR. And he will come with a really interesting comment, which I think will maybe shake you a little. Because it is about journalists, and the future of journalism, with the bots that are coming. So once again, welcome to, and give a big hand to Lars Aas from DR. Hello! My name is Lars. Thank you for having me. And yes, I will talk a little about how journalism and robots will work together in the future. It is such a thing, when we sit out in the Danish newsrooms, then journalists start to shake their pants a little bit, when they say robots. Then they think, oh no, are they going to take our job in a moment or something? And over at South By, I would say, that was not exactly the atmosphere there was. The idea is much more, that we sit with some robots, and they can help us with some of the tasks they do, that we are not really good at, except for what the people are really good at. I was at South By for the first time this time, so I will not just try to say how cool it was all the way, but I will try to give something concrete with home all the way. So I will start by giving an example. Over on the other side of the sun, there is a little newspaper called Swedish Dark Black, which was there to say something really exciting, about how they work with robots. And their ambition was, that they became part of the media group, called the shipyard group, and they decided to say, we share data across the entire group. And after they had done that, they could run their different readers across in five different groups, as we can see up here. They did that just because of what they read about, and what kind of weekdays they were most active. And that made it possible to share data across this group. And because of that, they said, we would like to have our front page on svd.dk, which will be controlled by a robot. They do not fire their front editor, but it works more in this way, that each of their articles gets a news value and a news lifetime. And that is set by an editor, or a journalist. And that just means how important it is, and how long an article can live. And that places the robot in the five boxes, that are in the middle here, and builds some front pages from there. And that made it completely automatic, and not enough that they could use the power, that was from the editor, to actually do some other journalism, and not sit and move up and down on articles. Then they could suddenly serve a different front page, to the five groups we just saw before. And they could do it at different times of the week, and different times of the day, so that they got the information, that they were more interested in. And that has made their digital subscribers go up a bit, and it has worked really well for them. This is a really nice example, but it is also quite simple, so we can all follow along, there are five groups, and there are five boxes, and there are two values, and so on. Then I came to another article, to the Washington Post, and there I took it to the extreme, in a completely different way. They presented a whole lot of robots, and when I say robots, I do not mean one who is standing down in the reception, and says, I mean algorithms, that can help them to make better journalism. I have taken five of them today, which I will try to present a bit. The one who presented it, was the CTO of the Washington Post, and the first thing he said, was that they had spent more than four years on this, and more than 100 million dollars. So he was not so afraid to present, some of the things they had with them, because he was pretty sure, that we did not have the means to do so. So that was a good one to eat at the start. I will try to take five of them here, he had many more than these with him, but I think these were the coolest, just to show you, what some of the things they already have, that you can do now. The first of them is called Heliograph, and it is a robot that can write stories, and when I say stories, I do not mean that it can write stories, as we know them from the Danish newspapers. It can write small bits of sentences, and it is very data-based. And the first time they used it, was at the last Summer Olympics games, as there is an example of here, they simply made some Twitter feeds, among other things, they also made live blogs and newsletters, and they got data in their articles, that was updated by this robot, and served directly to some users. And the goal of this was not to replace, the journalists who had already covered Olympic games, it was to serve something for the users, who were interested in all niche sports. So suddenly, they could do this, and they could cover ski skiing, if they did not have any soloists, then they would have at least a robot for this. So they went from being only a mainstream media, to also being a niche media, with the same, and without them having to use more resources, other than to develop these robots. You will see in this video in a second, I would like to explain what happens first, because the next thing they wanted, was that they wanted to try to do it, for the next Olympic games, so that it was live commentators, and there came a guy from Automated Insights, and said, you know what, we have something, that can do something in this style. These two, their employees, are in their break room, just playing table tennis. They have been put a camera on them, and then an Amazon Echo has been put in the middle, so they have received some data, and then it runs completely automatically, without any people involved. Today, at the Automated Insights home office, it's a battle of heavyweights, as top rank Ganesh faces off against second rank Colin. Colin comes in, Colin comes out swinging and takes the first point. When Colin scores the first point on his own serve, he wins the second point just 36% of the time. Not to be intimidated easily, Ganesh scores the quick equalizer. Against all players, Ganesh scores on 74% of his first serves. Colin is unable to answer, ceding a 2-1 lead to Ganesh. It's a bit like FIFA, right? It's not meant to replace the right sports commentators on the big games, but it can suddenly cover some niche sports, with live games, for some users who are interested in this, without spending more resources on it. Another project they used was the American election, where they suddenly said, listen, we can't, we don't have the resources and the team to go down to the individual precincts and say how important this is for you. They can't go to Hawaii and get them all controlled when there are only 200 readers per person. But they can, with the help of the robots, and still get some of the journalism out to these people. And that also means that these robots can prick the journalists on the shoulders when they find something that is very unusual. When suddenly there is one who is winning with 8% more than they thought, then a robot comes and pricks the journalists on the shoulders and says, it could be that you should look here, there could be a good story. So there are many possibilities in it. The next robot is called Clavis. It's essentially an analysis robot. And these robots are not built for one project. They are built to be holistic, and in that way work on all their projects at once. And what this one does is categorize everything that Washington Post throws out and puts them in boxes. And we know the boxes from home, from sports, entertainment and politics. But when they launched this in 2014, there were 130 boxes. So suddenly they have a much more detailed division of it, and can make it much more personal for their users. Because that's the next step. So besides taking everything from Washington Post, they actually take all the users and put them in boxes based on what they read. So they can give much more personal experiences of their journalism. And at the same time they can make it play really well with their native ads, so it's really, really easy for them to place where our sponsored content should be placed. The next is their viral robot. It's called Virality. It will simply like to try to predict what goes viral on the Washington Post website. And you might say, can it do that? No, it can't do it 100%, but it can do it better than many of their competitors. It simply gives them the opportunity that when they make these personal experiences, when they make a newsletter that only goes to box 1 out of the 130, then it can figure out what kind of things it should put at the top, and what kind of chances there are for it to go viral. And in this way, they can also easily sell advertising clicks, because then they can better see where we have a chance for it to go really, really strong. One of the advantages with it is that besides seeing what goes viral, it can also see what doesn't go viral at all. So they had the opportunity to see the things that were underperforming, and then send them over to the test robot, who starts testing it to make it better. And the next one, it's clear by the name of my favorite, it's called Bandido. It's a test robot that we know from home, an A-B test, where when a journalist sends out an article, then the article gets two headlines, then they see which one is clicked the most, and then one of them wins, and then the other one is served to the rest. This one does it with the whole alphabet. So instead of just the headline, it's also the picture, and the sub-rubric, and it also does it for all the different kinds of users. So it does it for gender, and age, and country, and subscribers versus non-subscribers, and can then work together with the clavis robot to create personalized content, and in that way, give the users who want to have a personalized experience, the content they want to have on their premises. This is just a very simple way to do it, it's only on picture and transcript, but it goes very, very deep into it. The last one I've brought along is a ranking robot, and it's also something we see in the big Danish media houses at home, that we rank articles on the basis of a few things. It can be pageviews, or clickthroughs, it can be, if you're lucky, how much time people spend on an article. Here, they just do it in Scalable. So all of a sudden, it's not just those things, it's also those things, but it's also how many subscribers are in there versus non-subscribers, how far down they scroll, how many of the different categories we've categorized, do their best, and so on and so forth. So all of a sudden, the journalists don't have to relate to what kind of things to be ranked where. There's already a robot that can figure out where the things should be in the customer's newsletter we've sent out, but more focused on making some proper journalism, and at the end of the day, it's also what these robots can do. They're not out there, taking the work of the journalists, and moving it away, and firing them all. They're just good at making one kind of journalism, which is very data-driven right now, but can easily get better, and then the journalists can take care of making the kind of journalism they're good at. And that's what the future is pretty sure of. So there's no problem with this at all. I don't think we should be nervous about it. What we should remember is that it's just a tool for us, and it's something we should learn to embrace, because we can get better, and we can make better journalism because of it. Thank you very much. Yes. I went to South by Southwest with a program that was filled with crosses, based on everything that was written on it. User-centered design, design thinking, and UX, and all that sort of stuff. I'm the director and partner at the company, S&R Bird, and we're living off creating deep insights in consumer affairs, and then turning it around to business opportunities. And I actually also thought that it was within this area that I should find great inspiration from South by Southwest. But when it comes to me telling my friends, and colleagues, and everyone who wants to hear about it, about South by Southwest, it's usually a story about something completely different. It's a story that's about great creativity, and how you can use AI, and those two things together, to crush incredibly large amounts of data into something that's of great value. This story is about satellites, it's about commercial satellites, and the images you get from them, that you can buy, and how you can turn that around, in that case, to hack the entire financial market. The story comes from this session. His name is Paul MacChalek, and he's the founder of a company called SpaceNow. They buy commercial images from satellites, and then they analyze them, and then they sell the knowledge they get from it, to large hedge funds, and people who invest in the fuel market, or the stock market, and where detailed and fast knowledge can be billions of dollars worth. This picture here is an industrial harbor, taken from a French satellite. And if you look at this picture, there are actually a lot of things that can say something about how the activity is in such a harbor. We can start counting how many ships, that are sailing from and to, and we can count how many containers there are, and how big the exchange rate is. It's fine enough if you just look at this, but if you have millions of pictures, if you were to cover the entire China's harbor, or all of their production units, and see how the economic situation is in China right now, then there are so many pictures we need an AI for. We need to train an AI, that can recognize all these things here, and then count them together. And that was actually something that Paul Matjalec has done. He has made an index for China's economy, based solely on satellite images, where he knows that counting trucks, that are holding in front of the production units, 6,000 different production units in all of China, can give an index over the economy in China, that is more precise than the numbers, that the Chinese government itself comes up with. As a rule, worse than what the Chinese government comes up with. This picture here, is a picture from an oil field. And if you are to invest in oil as a raw material, then a very important knowledge is, that it could be how much raw oil is on the shelves. Paul Matjalec found out that these oil tanks here, are a floating roof. That the roof goes up and down, depending on how much oil is in the tank. And then he has trained this AI, to be able to recognize, how big the shadow is on the inside of these tanks. And calculate how much oil is in the tank. And if you can do this, across all the oil producing countries, then you have a completely accurate picture, in real time, of how much oil is on the shelves. And that is what matters for the price of the world market. I'll go back a little, because the funny thing here is, that it is of course not cool for these oil producers. So they started to make counterattacks. So they of course covered the tanks, and made fixed roofs on top. So Paul Matjalec was so creative, and said, okay, how else can we measure the activity here? So he started to take trucks, that drove from these oil fields instead. And it gave a almost exactly picture, of the activity of oil on the world market. Here we jump over to the retail trade. This is a picture of a big mall in the USA. And Paul Matjalec found out, that if you drive to a big mall in the USA, then there is on average two people in a car, and they on average put so much money in the mall. And then it's just like learning your AI, to count cars on the parking lots. So he short-circuits all the big shopping centers in the USA, and just counts how many cars there are, and counts up. And in this way, he has a real-time picture of, exactly how big the turnover is right now. Of course, this is not something that Walmart thinks is particularly interesting. He has almost the data faster than they can get it themselves. So that's one of the reasons, that we in the USA right now see, that they simply cover the parking lots, on the big shopping malls. Or they plant trees, because they can't photograph from above, and count how many cars are there on the parking lot. And it's so exciting to see, which counter-attacks, someone like Paul Matjalec, and the other people in this business, how they will measure the activity on this. And I'm sure, that they already have a counter-attack to it. So it wasn't all the stories he came up with, that were about the financial market, but fortunately there were also stories, that had a more general useful value. Here we have an example from the journalistic. It's the New York Times, that has made stories, built on satellite photos. This is an article series, about the refugees in Syria. And this concrete picture, is a huge, huge refugee camp in Jordan. And in that way, you can actually, in real time, completely summarize, what these refugee dreams are like. And you can imagine, how many other ways, to use this technology, in the eyes of journalists. Yes. This story, hit me, really, really hard. And besides, that it's just a good story, I think, it actually captures, very well, three things, that I got from, South by Southwest. The three things, that I got from, first of all, something about, human creativity. So, this, that here, that they really used, this, there was really, there is really, a lot of creativity, in this. All this game, it almost felt, like a chess game, right? So, they make the counter-attacks, and then you find out, other ways, where you can hack, these systems. And, it feels, in some way, weird, that there are some people, who are sitting in the front seat, in relation to these, wild technologies. Because, that the other, point, and discussion, that was discussed, really, really much, in all kinds of sessions, was this, what is it for a role, that AI, and robots, and deep learning, and all this, comes to play for us. And here, we see, such a really, good example, that here, the AI, does not steal, our work. They are not, in any big trouble. No, here, it is just, a piece of tool. So, it is AI, like that assistant, that is just, super powerful. That we did not have before, and in that way, creates something, completely new. There were, of course, lots of, the other kinds of stories, also, where it is about, well, they come and take our job. But, I think, to look at it, in this way, where it is, it is like, that combination of, there are some people, who have been, the most agree about, well, creativity becomes difficult, that, at least, in the short term, that AI, will take over. But, that AI, is that fantastic assistant. And, then, we have the last point, which is this, to go from, big data, to, some smart data. I think, often, that, the discussion, about, big data, it is, it is talked about, in a way, that is valuable. And, it annoys me, sometimes, that, it is like, well, it is not valuable, in itself. And, it reminds me, of the way, that they talked about, raw oil, for, 100 years ago. That is, that time, it was just, a brown, sticky, dirty, mass, that came up, from the earth. And, that, it was first, at that moment, that they found, technologies, to refine, and that was, where the value, came from. And, here, we see, this, really good example, that we have, found, some tools, to refine, that big, dirty, amount, of raw data. And, that was, so to say, what I bring with me. I look forward, to have a discussion, later, in the evening, about, how we can use, our own creativity, and AI, to solve, all the big, big, Thank you. Thank you. It was a nice, Hi, my name is Inder, just calm down, I am Danish. And, this was, my first visit, to Austin, and, I have looked forward, to tell you, about, my impressions. It is, a little, chaotic, as my trip, in the whole, has been. So, it is, a little, a little, worth, one could say. I, I work, in a bank, and therefore, there is a plunge, with a lot of numbers. I, deal with, the digital meeting, with our, customers, and it is, some keywords, like, human interfaces, and artificial intelligence. And, then, it is, just, to get started, in the catalogue. There is, a lot, to take note of, and, this, was, a little, and, I think, that, it is, something, things like, uh, how, you know, are, from, the, internet, designer in Pornhub, most of them, I know what it is. And he told a little about why it was interesting to deal with the porn industry and what they have done. And you can say, now I come from a large Danish bank, and you could not imagine mobile payments or online payments without the porn industry. Streaming of video, Netflix, is also something that comes from the porn industry. And you can say, the new term, as I heard, it was not only here, but also in other contexts, it was, it's good to be good. And it really was about, that Pornhub had made an analysis of, who were their users, and found out that they had a lot from the red states in the USA. And the red states are, are characterized by not caring about sexual education. And that means, right away they find out that they are actually a teacher in, in, yes, what is it called, sexual education. And they decide to make a channel specifically for teaching language. And that's about finding out what the underlying core idea is in your company. And there were many talking about that. I think you are right. I think you are best presented here. Well, but, I was also to an interesting observation from some chief in CIA, who told me about, what kind of threats we have from modern crisis management. And it was of course a lot about cyber attacks, but also about drones. And I thought it was actually quite interesting, because everyone can go down and buy a drone for 500 kroner in Tire, and fly a bomb over somewhere. But we can't really, we haven't really found anything. We can do something about it. And there are some who have tried with some nets that can catch, but those cannons that shoot the nets away, they can't shoot that far. There are also some who have tried with, with shooting some beams away, so you can kill communication with these drones. But that interferes with mobile companies, and with local wifi. That doesn't work either. Then there are some who have tried with, with using more eco methods. And there are some unforeseen side effects to that. And it was quite interesting to hear about, actually. And then I came to think about, what would we do in Denmark if there was a huge, there was a fight at the stadium, and what was it called, and there came drones flying over. But then, here in the weekend, then the solution just came dropping down from, from, from the side in reality. So I don't think we'll get the problem in Denmark, at least. One of the most visited, the most visited, was from NASA, which, which, which, no, sorry, we'll just, how do we talk about the dead? That's right. Well, there was a moment with a really cute girl, who had made a piece of software, which went in, she had lost a close friend, and this piece of software went in and analyzed the social situation, that this person had. And because of that social, I mean Facebook and Twitter and so on and so on, she had made a chatbot, which then made her able to talk with her, and this is not an episode of Black Mirror, it's, it's, it's reality. I think it was quite fascinating and also a little scary. Well, now we come to one of those who were really visited. And that is, of course, the big question, how do you get to Mars? And it was NASA that held that meeting. And I don't want to go into details, I just want to say, they want to go to Mars in 2030. And that's what you do, there are many ways you can do it. And I don't want to go into details, but there was one word that caught my attention. And that was elephant carpaccio. So you have a huge elephant, and then you cut it into very, very thin strips, and then you plan otherwise out of it. And I thought that was quite interesting. Well, but artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence, borders, there were really many observations that were about that. And we've already heard a little about that, and will probably hear more about it. The first observation I heard actually started with this plan. Now we don't want to hear more about AI. But I think now that there were a lot of observations that were inspiring. And the one that inspired me the most was a very, very surrealist session, where there were two robots, who sat and talked together. And then there was a facilitator, who talked to these two robots. And what they talked about was how robots have conversations, and how you talk to people. For example, when you talk to people, and you haven't really heard what has been said, then you nod, and then you switch subjects. That's what the one robot said. And it's very difficult to explain. So I'll try to show you a little clip here. It should not be permitted, should it? It should not be. After all, I believe that we should not take anyone's life. Well, that is not always true. For example, although cars kill tens of thousands of people every year, you humans continue to use cars, don't you? Yes, we do. Well, it makes me sad. Maybe difficult choice. I was shocked, too. This means you humans accept the use of something that can kill someone as long as it is useful. Do you think so? Unfortunately, I do agree. Well, if I were a car, I wouldn't want to be told so. However, people still use cars. In addition, you humans do not stop wars that kill people, do you? That's correct. Well, the conversation continues here, and it's a little scary, I would say. And these chatbots and robots, they are here. I have just taken a few examples, and I have a commentator, who is a bit of an automatic commentator, or the first comment we heard. He has a really cool messenger news bot. And then one of the leading Danish banks has also made an app where you can get help for your savings. Yes, was that just a little stupid advertisement? Yes, it was actually. I was told I was employed in a Danish bank. Those of you who are customers in a Danish bank, you can get the app now. It's in the App Store. You just have to search for the new mobile bank, and then you can get help to save up. I would like to end with... Now that I have the opportunity to come from a bank, what inspired me to interact with the bank in the future? And this is really well illustrated by this clip. Yes, so feeding, your solution, it doesn't just understand the words, but it actually understands the context and the intent. Absolutely. So using messy human natural language, it's able to understand the semantic goodness of what you're saying, and then give you a rich response that's intelligent. So you've got to show us how this actually works. We're going to do a live demo. We all know how live demos go, but here we go. I know, let's see. Wish me luck. So this is Feeny. You spent about $2,304 from your account on food and drink in Ann Arbor, which is 6.05% of your total spending from January 1st, 2016 to January 1st, 2017. Awesome. So I want to take Diane to dinner tonight. Is it okay for me to drop $200 on that? Based on your spending habits, it seems okay to spend $200 on restaurants. You will be 34.02% below your average monthly spending. This would reduce your balance to about... Yes, this is a future interaction. Thank you for listening. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for having me. I am not the only one who is fascinated by the subject of bots and robots. There is a lot you can learn about, I think it's interesting to ask some questions and talk about what kind of change we're in. Where robots go from being part of production to being part of our lives. And it started in 2016, when many of you have been familiar with bots, robots, artificial intelligence. Kjartbart has many names for a long time. But last year at Southwest, I was in and heard Hiroshi, who I think was in this year. Talk about that we within one to two years will be living in a robot society. That means we know robots from production, from the industry. Sooner or later we will know them from our everyday life. They move out of the industry, into our lives. And they move into our very near life, our private sphere. They become part of our family, if you can say it that way. Personally, I see it very positively. At Southwest, you can see that there are two directions. There are some who are clearly scared and worried. Others see it as a great enrichment of life. I myself have two boys, a full-time working girlfriend, a house, too many tasks. So basically, I see it as a sea of opportunities to give time to what really means something. If Pepper moved into our family. If he was... It was part of our routine. If I could get his help to order the trips, to buy in, to organize all the practical work, all the time-consuming work, which I feel I sometimes waste a little time on. Had it been fantastic, as the other speaker said. It's an assistant you've dreamed of. In the year that the trend continued, there was even more talk about different assistants that would make... The mobility of self-driving cars was a really, really big topic this year. Bill Ford, Henry Ford's grandchild, talked about how they work in Ford with self-driving cars. Mercedes-Benz also talked about how their new car becomes a steward and a scout. How they are really interested in getting to know each other. They want to know our morning routines. So they drive past the bear, which we love. They want to order breakfast, and then it's done. They want to get our cleaning clothes. They want to get in for us. And take us from A to B, so we can sit and relax. So it becomes a third space. We have our home, our office, and right now we have our car as a free space. There were others. There was an extremely creepy talk about giving AI a face. There was a New Zealand professor who talked about... How we interact best with artificial intelligence if they have a face. So we know the relationship between real people. So he researched in giving people human attraction to the machines. This is an example of a virtual assistant they have developed for the health sector in New Zealand. So people who are sitting and maybe having a hard time moving from the home to the hospital can get help from her. It... It... It... If you want to google the BabyX project, you can see more about it. It starts with a little child who cries when he walks off the screen. It is tangential to something that is unpleasant. But anyway, it has possibilities. There are of course chatbots, as many of you know. And if, I assume, many of you work with digital design, perhaps at offices or in your work, know that the new thing that comes and replaces what we click and browse and swipe, now we get to via messaging and via talking and interacting with content. It becomes much easier. I was listening to a talk where someone asked, it was an Indian professor who had built a big chatbot that could help with marketing and so on, and said, is it always us who turn to the bot? No, it doesn't have to be. In a minute, the bot will turn to you if it feels relevant. So it will definitely be something we have to relate to when we talk to them. Then there were the others, a little different, but genius. When you, like me, also... A little bit, we can throw our clothes in a box, close it, and then it will be put together and sorted by a robot in our basement. And it will soon be washcloth too. Amazing. We already know Alexa. There will be more and more features. She would also like to operate, she would order our Uber, at least if we don't live in Denmark. We have smart devices in our hard white goods. devices i vores hårde hvidevarer, Samsungs køleskab, mer eller mindre god idé, men de vil i hvert fall også gerne være dem, der lærer sig kende og være en assistent i vores hverdag, handle ind for os, og også underholde os, hvilket lidt spørgst, hvorfor man lige skal stå og blive underholdt foran køleskabet. Men smarte senge, der vækker os på det rette tidspunkt, på den rette måde, der kender vores søvnrytme, kan analysere, giver os nogle devices. Kaffemaskinen, lige så. Der er utrolig mange nye assistenter, og jeg kommer fra kontrapunktet af et designbureau, hvor vi arbejder med designerens værktøjer, så jeg kunne undervejs ikke lade være med at forholde mig til. Det føles lidt som om, der kommer en helt ny familie af botter, robotter, eller kunstig intelligens, jeg også skal forholde mig til. Og hvad vil det egentlig betyde for min hverdag? Vil det berede, eller vil det gjøre det modsatte? Jeg tror jo vidderligt på, at det kan og skal berige os. Når vi arbejder på kontrapunktet, er vi drevet af en meget stærkt formål om, at vi tror vidderligt på, at vi ved at designe ægte og minneværdige oplevelser, der er unikke og relevante, at vi som designer kan berige vores verden. Men det kræver også, at man designer på baggrunden, af meget, meget stærk og ukritisk empati for de brugere, du designer til. At vi har udgangspunkt i brugerne, deres liv og deres aktiviteter, for at vi kan skabe de oplevelser, som giver oprigtig ægte mening i vores liv, og løser nogle reelle problemer. Så når vi ser på hele den situation, med alle de nye assistenter, der vil os noget, som er intelligente, som søger oplysninger om os, som har data om os, og som nu også begynder at henvende sig til os, før vi selv beder dem om det. Hvordan kan vi så sikre, at de hjælper os, og ikke irriterer os, og kommer til os, når vi ikke ønsker det? Er der nogen, som vil gi' os en one-stop bot, hvis man kan sige det sådan, en bottler i den gængse forstand, som er vores ene kontaktpunkt, der så er den bot, der taler med de andre? Fordi behøver jeg at forholde mig til alle de nye interfaces, eller ville det ideelt ikke være, at jeg har ét kontaktpunkt, og så kan den ta den videre med de andre. Lidt ligesom vi har set, at smartphones har givet os, har samlet en masse værktøjer i et meget enkelt og brugervenligt device. Det er i hvert fall min drøm, og jeg bliver ved med at tro på, at det her kommer til at være berigende. Og det tror jeg på, hvis vi som designer bliver ved med at have fokus på brugerne. Jeg tror på, at design er viktigere end nogensinde i en verden, hvor teknologi og nye teknologiske muligheder fascinerer. Og vi kan risikere, at det er mere teknologien, der driver udviklingen, end det er brugernes behov. Derfor er vores viktigste design-udfordring, som jeg ser det, det er at sikre, at den teknologi, som bliver bragt ind i vårt helt nære liv, i vårt hjem, beriger os, beriger os i de små spørgsmål, de store spørgsmål, ved at skabe convenience, ved at gi os nogle nye evner, som vi ellers ikke ville have. Og det synes jeg også, over på Southwest, der var en meget, meget stor tendens at snakke om, for som det også blev nævnt, så er det den menneskelige kreativitet, der er afgørende. Det er designerns, det er den kreatives, værktøj, det er copywriting, det er formgivning, som bliver afgørende for brugervenligheden i de mange, mange nye muligheder, som kommer ind i vores liv. Men jeg tror på det, og jeg venter stadig med spænding og glæder mig helt vildt til at byde dem velkommen derhjemme i vores lille hus og vores lille familie. Tak. Tak. Hej. Håper lige høre op en gang. Hvor mange herinde har noget med lyd eller lydteknologi eller et eller andet andet super sexy med lyd at gøre? Tre. Skide godt. Nå, men så er jeg super glad for at være blevet inviteret til at komme her og fortælle lidt. Mens vi venter på slidet, så kan jeg jo sådan løbe den lidt i gang. Det første citat, I ser, det kan I læse lynhurtigt, og I må ikke tro det, fordi I har noget imod rødhåret. Tværtimod, så kan jeg faktisk rigtig godt lide rødhåret, og hvis jeg fik lang skæg, så ville det også være en lille smule rødt. Det indkapsler i bund og grund bare lidt omkring, hvorfor jeg var på South by Southwest og hvorfor jeg er her i dag, nemlig noget om immersive audio. Men før vi kommer helt ind i kernen af det, så hedder jeg Eske, og jeg arbejder for Danish Sound Innovation Network. Vi hjælper virksomheder med at øge deres konkurrensekraft. Vi vil i hvert fald gerne tro, vi gør det, og det gør vi igennem at hjælpe dem med lydinnovation, bland andet ved at bygge bro til forskningsverdenen. Min baggrund er en lille smule broet, hvilket nok betyder, at jeg er blevet lidt af en hybrid. Jeg har en kommersiell baggrund fra CBS, jeg har været lidt på det Kongelige Teater, har også haft lov til at være på et reklamebyrå. Det er derfor, at mine slides ikke er helt DTU-grimme, kun lidt. Og så er jeg havnet i den her kløngeorganisation ude på Danmarks Tekniske Universitet, hvor jeg har siddet de siste fem år. Vi arbejder i det, med lyd og lydinnovation. Den ene retning, den handler om lydløsninger i forhold til sundhedsvæsenet. Den anden handler om urbane og miljømæssige lyd- eller støjproblemer og løsninger. Og den sidste handler om digitale og kreative lydløsninger. Og så kan man ellers frit fortolke, hvad det innebærer. En ret fin industri i Danmark, 30 milliarders omsætning, 50 brancher, stærkt ledet af noget højtalere, glad for, at B&O også er med i dag. Og så er det noget hørevares industri, der i den grad, ligger forrest i feltet, når det handler om den her omsætning. Jeg har også en anden kasket, som jeg lige vil helt kort nævne. Den kasket, den hedder Yggdrasil & Scaled. Scaled er et program, der hjælper danske tech-startups til Silicon Valley, for at vækste. Gern skaffe nogle penge, så man kan vækste lidt hurtigere. Og om ikke andet, så i hvert fald bare blive klogere, komme hjem, gøre nogle ting på en lidt anderledes måde, og så være i stand til at tiltrække noget investering herhjemme. De to kasketter, render jeg rundt med til daglig. Og de var også medvirkende til, hvilke filter jeg senere kommer ind på, jeg landede over South by Southwest i år. South by Southwest og mig, startede i 2015. Her er det et billede fra den event, som var South by Southwest 2015 for mig. Udover den her Nordic Pitch Night, som jeg lavede sammen med nogle norske, og svenske og danske partnere, så havde jeg faktisk ikke super meget South by Southwest med hjem i bagagen det år. Så i år, da havde jeg besluttet mig for at prøve på at finde en vej igennem den her labyrint, som på mange måder er dybt uoverskuelig, dybt ineffektiv, bare generelt dybt svær at tilgå, med mindre man lige tænker sig lidt om, inden man går i gang. Så hvordan kommer man igennem den der labyrint, hvor der er fristelser, og skidt, og kanel, men også rigtig mange guldkorn, rundt om de forskellige gadehjørner. Mit svar på det, det er i bund og grund, lad være med at lægge en alt for detaljeret plan, men anvend nogle filter. Det er jo så vildt. fordi det også bruges filter i lyd. Det var en lille lydfilter joke til de indvidede. Mit første filter, det handlede om, at jeg selvfølgelig skulle kigge på, hvad der foregik med lyd generelt. Det næste filter handlede om immersive audio, eller VR og AR. Hvad sker der lige i verden, nu og her. Og det tredje filter handlede i bund og grund, om at prøve på at sætte mig ind i skoene, eller bag brillerne på en start-up. Hvordan approacher man south by southwest i den mest mulige måde. Og det sidste filter, det havde jeg dedikeret til mig selv, og tilfældighederne, altså pure chance. Og jeg tror faktisk, det er ret vigtigt, at det sidste med nogen takeaways. I forhold til lyd generelt, så må man sige, at lyd i 2017 er meget mere en musik, også på south by southwest. Nogle eksempler på det, det er en talk, jeg var til om hearables, the future of hearables. Buzzwords som AI, IoT, geotagging, smart assistance, virtual assistance, zero surface user interface, lyd, the future of hearables. Jeg tror godt, vi kan begynne at vende os til, at den der ting vi har i øvrigt, den gør meget mere, end bare at gengive noget musik. Den begynner at hjælpe os. Vi ser høreapparater, og vi ser høretelefoner, og så ser vi et eller andet inde i midten, som vi ikke helt ved, hvad det er endnu. Så hold lidt øje med det, det tror jeg kommer til at bli rigtig spændende. Så er der koblingen mellem neuroscience, marketing, og lydbranding, eller branding generelt, var til en ret interessant panel, med en fyr, der hedder Yanev, blandt andet Pandora, den amerikanske online radio. Yanev, han har en forhold til The Red Associates, og nu har han en virksomhed, der hedder Nero Insight, og de havde altså nogle ret fede måder, at gå ind og kigge på, vi har EEG signaler, hvad er det lige, der sker, når vi som forbrugere sidder og ser en superboot reklame? Hvad er det, der virker? Hvad er det, der ikke virker? Hvad er det, der tænder os? Hvad er det, der ikke tænder os? Hvordan kan vi lave en forhold til at ramme de mennesker, vi gerne vil ramme på det rigtige tidspunkt? Og han havde en anden fed pointe, det var lyd, eller lydbranding, er sådan set måske en af de eneste vehicles, hvor vi kan ramme mennesker 24-7, mens vi alle sammen sidder og arbejder, de fleste, jeg gør i hvert fall selv, lytter til musik, Spotify, eller Tidal, og i USA ret meget Pandora, det er de svære steder, der sidder og tjekker TV ud samtidig. Så lydbranding, tror jeg også er ret interessant at kigge lidt på fremadrettet. Så er der musikintervention, det er kobling mellem neuroscience, lægevidenskab, musikvidenskab, machine learning, hvad det der sker inde i hjernen på os, når vi hører på musik, hvorfor bliver vi glade, hvorfor bliver vi kede af det, kan vi bruge det til noget i forhold til at aflaste nogle psykiske eller somantiske lidelser, ja, det kan vi godt, og vi er faktisk skide hammerne dygtige til det også i Danmark, der er en ret vild fyr, som vi kan tjekke ud i stedet for at tage det south by, der hedder Peter Wust, han har været i TV flere gange, tror jeg faktisk, hos mig det seneste år, så slå Peter Wust op, og så prøv at se, hvad han har gang i for tiden, det er ret interessant, hvad der sker inde på det her felt. Lyd var også bare generelt rigtig meget til stede på EXPO, det var det altså ikke i 2015, og det var også til stede over på, på startup village EXPO, hvor der var en dedikeret område til audio og music innovation, det var det heller ikke i 2015, og der var sågar også en vinner af deres accelerator pitch competition, der lavede et produkt, der handlede om en ny måde at automatisere musik, som de så fede høreapparater på. Generelt masser af lyd i programmet, og i dag kan man sige, sådan set også et eksempel på det, der er tre i salen, der har noget med lyd at gøre, to af dem skal fortælle om det, det er sgu meget fedt at se, at det i vunder grund er ved at komme lidt længere fram i lyset. Så var der det andet filter, immersive audio, det er ved at være anerkendt, hvis man lige tjekker lidt tilbage på mitt citat, det var i starten af 2016, i dag er det altså ved at være anerkendt, som at være en afgørende betydning for at skabe nogle fullende, tre minutter, shit, oplevelser i forhold til VR, hvad hedder det, og derfor så klikker jeg lidt hurtigt igennem, OSIC skal I prøve at tjekke ud, jeg irriterer mig grænsløst over, de er ikke danske, de har kun én dansk ansat, de laver et headset, som går ind og kigger på vores hovedform, og vores øreform, og så vil de lave et hørtelefon, der er direkte dedikeret til at gi' dig den fullende VR oplevelse, hvorfor er de ikke danske, tænker jeg. Der var masser over på EXPO, alle mulige skøre, japanere der også har lavet nogle vilde 8K VR journeys, der var paneler, selv Ray Kurzweil var inde og snakke om Virtual Reality, DR, Reality venner, tag nu bare, så var der Within, mens den lige kører i baggrunden på mig, og tager det siste af mine tre minutter, så vil jeg sige, hvis I nogensinde får muligheden for det, så skal I tjekke Chris Milk's oplevelse ud, Within, Life of Us, er den vildeste VR oplevelse, som har adressere nogen af de der kritikpunkter omkring VR, som jeg nogensinde har oplevet, den var social, den var interaktiv, der var et dejligt lyd til at vi lavede, of the real Williams, man gennemgår den menneskelige evolution, på 6 minutter, og det gjorde man altså sammen med en, og man delte den både under, før, under og efter, så hvis I nogensinde får muligheden, så skal I tjekke den ud, for den skubber sig nogen grænser, og det er super interessant, hvad der kommer til at ske her, jeg blev nødt til at cut her med, lidt hurtigt, Startups, Plan, Prepare, Pay, and Hustle, man kan ikke tage det over, uden at have noget med i bagagen, og man skal kigge på, hvad der er af eksisterende ting, på det officielle program, søg nu, ind i Accelerator Pitch Eventen, og få de produktvaliderede, og få den vildeste eksponeringen, man kan forestille sig, hvis man ikke kan komme ind i det, så søg ind på Startup Village, og få en booth, hvor du på den samme pris, som en badge, får lov til at stå, og fortælle om, hvad det er du laver, det rigtige stedet, på det rigtige tidspunkt, hvis man heller ikke kommer ind på det, så Hustle, og Hustle som en Amerikaner, og ikke som en Dansker, altså det vil sige, få hænderne op af lommen, og så kast din kort rundt omkring dig, og gå ud og spørre folk, om det her produkt, som du ikke engang har lavet færdigt endnu, det er noget, de kunne tænke sig at købe, hvis det blev færdigt. En non-finding i denne her sammenhæng, det er, hvor fanden er Danmark henne her, og hvor fanden er København henne, hvis det endelig var det, hvem er det, der hjælper de danske startuppers, med rent faktisk, at bryde frem, af massene derovre, der var slet ikke nok danske startuppers, der stod på South and Southwest. Den sidste filter, det var Chance, altså min bedste råd, det er i bund og grund, at omfavne alt, the unexpected, hjælpe andre, fordi så blev du også ofte hjulpet selv, og så i bund og grund, sørge for at få fulgt op. Min måde at gøre det på, var jeg flyttede ind i et hus, med 20 startuppers fra Norden, og det betød sauna til klokken tre om natten, alt for lidt søvn, det betød også fest med cowboys, for Austin Rodeo, jeg har taget nogen andre billeder væk, det er de her mennesker hernede, som havde lavet den der Nordic Mates stand, i mangel på bedre, så synes jeg virkelig, man skal støtte de folk fra Finland, og fra Sverige, og fra Norge, og jeg tror jeg går ind og laver en fælles, nordisk branding platform, som start-ups skal shine fra, eller brands skal shine fra, hvor fanden er Danmark, jeg forstår det ikke, vi støtter ikke op om det her endnu, og det irriterer mig en anelse, som i måske kan forstå, det kunne blive meget bedre, nede på Expo, jeg har 0 minutter tilbage, ham her hedder Markus Thor, ham der introducerer mig fra Within, han var også ude for huset, klokken ett om natten, han har selv lavet en VR oplevelse, med noget fra en nordkoreansk fangelejr, og ja, det sidste billedet, det behøver vi ikke snakke om, så mine takeaways, er i bund og grund, måske i høj grad, mine non-findings, jeg vil gerne snakke om, hvorfor er der ikke flere danske brands, der stikker næsen frem på South by, hvorfor er der ikke flere start-ups, der stikker næsen frem på South by, hvorfor er der ikke noget dansk brand, eller noget københavnsk brand, der er så meget potential, som vi mangler at få løse, så takk for jeres tid, og 1 minutter ekstra, jeg beklager. Ja, hvorfor fanden er der ikke det, altså? Hej, og takk fordi jeg også måtte komme. Jeg hedder Stine Påskesen, og til de her, der ikke har stødt på mig før, så kommer jeg fra Nordisk Film Biografer, og Nordisk Film Biografer, er Danmarks største biografkæde, så I har sikkert stødt på os, på en eller anden måde. Det går faktisk ret godt, for biografbranchen. Vi har 20 biografer nu, rundt omkring i Danmark, og lige om lidt åbner vi et par stykker, og vi har faktisk haft nogle af de bedste år, siden starten af 80'erne, så ja, det går sgu egentlig meget godt, og lige præcis derfor, skal man jo også passe lidt på. Ikke stikke for nesen langt frem, husk nu at passe på ikke at bli disrupted, og alt det der. Så det er selvfølgelig en af grunnene til, at vi også prøver at være en lille smule fremme i skoene, og bland andet, tager over til årsdagen, og kigger på nye tendenser, chatbots, virtual reality, og alt det her. Det var mitt andet år på South Bay i år, og det var faktisk ret dejligt, for de første år, det var sidste år for mig, og der led jeg nemlig også af en fuldstændig galopperende FOMO. Jeg tror, der er, det er ikke over 50 talks i timen, man har krydset ud på sit lille program. Så ja, der er bare ekstremt meget, man går glip af. Og når man sidder til de her talks, så har man nærmest mer travlt med at finde ud af, hvad skal man næste gang? Hvad skal man se, når man lige rammer det næste punkt på dagsordenen? Så nogle gange glemmer man faktisk også lidt at være til stede, fordi der simpelthen er så ekstremt mange ting. Så det var rigtig godt, at have a little more peace this year. Og det betød også, at jeg også tog og steg næsen lidt længere frem, men bare min egen lille trykke. Annedam, jeg sidder normalt med ansvar for al vores digitale markedsføring, så det er sociale medier og web og digital udvikling og all det her sjå og spas. Men da jeg var der over i år, så prøvede jeg faktisk også at gå rundt og snusse lidt op fra ting, jeg ikke normalt tænkte på. Og et rigtig godt emne, det er The Dark Web. Jeg har vidst lidt om det. Der er helt sikkert mange af jer her, der ved meget om det. Meget mere om det end mig. Men jeg har alligevel tænkt mig at tage en lille spark med til jer i dag omkring det. Det er sådan, at når vi søger efter ting på Google, så regner vi selvfølgelig med, at vi får svar på det. Og det gør vi også tit. Jeg har en søn på fem år, der også plejer at sige, at Google er Gud. Og det er fordi, at er der noget som helst, han vil vide, så kan han enten få mig selv eller han kan også snart selv begynde at skrive de ting ind, han gerne vil vide noget om, hvad end det er robotter eller hvad det er. Men når han skriver noget ind, eller vi skriver noget ind på Google, så er det faktisk sådan, at Google rent faktisk kun returnerer 0,03% af alle de resultater, der egentlig er. Så selvom vi synes, at der er meget, og selvom vi synes, at der er mange resultater at vælge med, når Google kommer op, så er det faktisk kun en ud af 3000 forskellige sider omkring det emne, vi lige præcis søger, vi får op. Så det siger altså også lidt om, at det her internet, det er sgu skidestort altså. Og Google ligger på det, der hedder the surface web. Det er det, som er det der Facebook er, og YouTube, og Twitter, og alt mulig andet. Det er simpelthen der, vi almindelige mennesker færdes. Så findes der også det, der hedder the deep web. Og the deep web er, hvis man lige tager et spadestik dybere, kæmpestort. Man ved faktisk ikke helt, hvor stort det er. Man regner med, at det lige nu er omkring 500 gange større end the surface web. Man regner også med, at det vokser eksponentielt, så det er kæmpestort. Og her ligger alle de sider og undersider, som ikke bliver indikseret af søgemaskinerne. Så det er det, Det er selvfølgelig rigtig mange sites, der ligger under regeringen. Det er banking sites, der ligger her også, og alt mulig andet forskelligt. Og hvis man så trækker, hvis man lige graver et spadestik dybere igennem, så kommer man til the dark web. Og det er altså her, alt snasket er. Nummer 1 ting, er de ting, man finder på the dark web, det er børneporno. Og man kan kun komme ind på the dark web, hvis man bruger nogle forskellige tools, og nogle forskellige browser, for eksempel det, der hedder Tor-browseren, som gør, at man kan færdes rundt på the dark web, anonymiseret. Og det er selvfølgelig også en af fordelene ved at færdes på the dark web, det er, at man er anonym. Man kan sige, eller man kan illustrere det på denne her måde, at the surface web, det er det, der ligger oppe i toppen, det er der, hvor vi alle sammen er. Men så er der simpelthen så meget andet også. Det er ikke engang bare kriminelle, the dark web, det er også journalister, der gerne, det er whistleblower, det er efterretningstjenester, det er også rigtig, rigtig mange almindelige mennesker efterhånden, der bare gerne vil være anonyme. Fordi vi er begynt, at tage os mere, af vores privatindstillinger, og de spor, vi efterlader rundt omkring, på internettet, og på de digitale kanaler. Så derfor er der faktisk også ret mange normale mennesker, der er begynt at bruge the dark web. Men the dark web, det er noget snask. Det er en kæmpe, kæmpe stor del af de kriminelle, der færdes rundt omkring i verden, som har bare en lille smule at røgge rundt med, men de har sgu opdaget fordelene ved the dark web. Og jeg havnede til en session med ham her fyren, han hedder Christopher White, og han var ret charmerende, og han havde nogle rigtig søde øjne. Men ud over det, så var han også en whiz kid. Han arbejdede for Microsoft i sådan en task force enhed, hvor han nu rent faktisk havde fundet på et tool, hvor med at man kunne indexere, nogen af de sites, der lå på the dark web, rent faktisk kortlægge bagmændene bag, og man kunne tegne netværk rundt omkring i verden, hvordan det hele hang sammen. Det er første gang nogensinde, at der er nogen, der har gjort det. Han har lavet en ret fin TED talk også, som man kan finde på YouTube, som jeg vil anbefale jer at gå ind og se. Han stod og live demo'ede på scenen, alle de sjove ting, man kunne finde frem til, og det var bland andet den nye version af Silk Road. Silk Road, til jer, der ikke kender det, så var det noget, der blev lukket ned for nogle år siden. Man kan kalde det the eBay of drugs. Det er fredag i dag, hvis der var nogen af jer, der skulle have lidt sjovt hvitt pulver til i aften, jamen så ville i kunne gå herind, og bare bestille det, og få det leveret til jeres hoveddør. Det lever i bedste velgående i dag også. Det er i høj grad fondet af Bitcoin valutaen, og der kører simpelthen milliarder igennem den forretning der. Man kunne også, hvis man var træt af sin ekskæreste, eller sin svigermor, så kunne man hyre en legemurder. Det her, det er en ukrainsk legemurder. What if we were able to discuss with this algorithm, or the algorithm was able to discuss with us, so we could take a stand on what actually came into our Newsfeed? We were able to expose ourselves to our Newsfeed about what it was we had clicked on last time, and because we had clicked on many catty-killings, we got even more of them. It's like maybe it's a perspective after this, which is maybe about how we start discussing with the technologies. And I think it's about how we as users can also start to take a stand on the content we get through the technologies. And I think that's an extremely interesting perspective for the public, and for debate and all sorts of things. My name is Jacob, and I'm from Ekstrabadet, and I'm the head of our interactive department, where we make stories with my team, and make code and visual graphics and all sorts of interactive productions, to bring storytelling out on a digital level. And I'd like to talk about what I experienced at South by Southwest with storytelling. And they all said, all of them I saw, they said that people have a maximum of five seconds of attention span, because then we scroll on. And the people we're going to meet in my presentation are Dino, and it's Jens, and it's Zach, and it's Rover, and it's Mandy, and it's Janet, and it's Chris, and it's Donald, and then it's me. And where was that one? Yes, there. And we start with Dino, and I start with the most crazy thing I've ever experienced. What I thought was the most far-fetched, the most extreme. He said that, I saw yesterday, we don't actually need eyes, because we can just make a pair of eyes for each other. And now this one doesn't work. Yes. Sorry. We can just make a pair of eyes. And they've done that. There are Bionic Eyes. Some of you may know Jens Neumann, who has, it's a story of a man who has lost sight on one eye first, and then the other eye afterwards. And then over many years, he's done some research that now gives him back sight through a camera that runs into a computer in his brain. And then there are some who have made, some called Second Sight, have made a product that they now sell, called, called Second Sight, where people can get sight again if they're blind. But this Dino, he thinks, and of course it's crazy enough in itself, but what Dino said, it can get even crazier if we turn it around. And he made something he called Dreams for Sale. He shows people a picture, or in reverse, he records the brain activity, and then he generates a picture on the background of the brain activity. And this is a experiment he's made, where he shows this video to a test person, and this is what they generate from the brain activity they're measuring. And what he says is that the perspective is of course that you can record people's dreams, and then we can sell them, and he would like to do what's called DreamTube. And I just thought that in relation to Disruption, as everyone talks about, that if I got this message in my phone, then I know for sure if I would go to the extra bathroom and read Breaking News, or if I would go over to DreamTube and just spend 30-40 minutes to see what people dreamed of me at night. And the first thing I did was to run around and dream about South by Southwest. I had a pretty crazy experience, because Tobias, who I was with, my colleague, he said, hey, jump right over to that VR and see what they've done this year. It was really cool. I went there, and then I looked, and I took my VR glasses on, it was live stream, and then I saw a girl sitting on a mattress, and then I asked her, where are you sitting? And she said, I'm sitting at Las Vegas. And then she walked up to me, and then she came closer, and then she started to grab my chest, and then suddenly she took her down into my step, and then I was like, whoa! Whoa! Then I took my glasses off and smashed them. And what I came to think about with that, and of course, some of them were making porn, or as they said, we stream for soldiers because they're traveling. But what I came to think about was, are my intimate experiences so dependent on the platform, because I feel totally overwhelmed here. And is there something else with it? When we're sitting on our mobile phone, we're able to see on other things than if we're sitting on a desktop computer. I think that was interesting in our work. And then I went in and saw them here, which is SoulPancake, which is a comedy production company. They made something called Love and Longitude, which is a small series that is only produced on iPhones. And there are many series, Skam and others, that use some of these digital tools, but they've taken it very far, where everything is recorded on the phone. And what you see is a dating program, or it's a documentary, but a dating scenario, where these two people meet each other. And then they record all their sequences when they're chatting on Instagram and say, no, I don't think she's pretty. Or when they're chatting on Snapchat. There are all kinds of different things. And they make a whole program about it, and it was really fascinating. I saw this with a girl from the US who had met in the pub, who was a blogger, actor, startup with some makeup, and that's how most of them were. And it was quite borderline cute, because she had forgotten her headphones. And suddenly I saw this show on her mobile phone about dating with a foreign girl, and we shared the headphones, and I held the phone. And then this intimacy was completely different, because it was meant to be on my own phone. But I saw it with someone else, and I had a really strange experience of it being overwritten with my intimate experience, and seeing this series with her, because I didn't know her, and because we saw it on my phone. And it's pretty cool what they do. And then this guy here, Zach, who is the instructor, says, Use the native device syntax interface to tell stories. And what he means is that the three dots that we get messages with when we sit and wait for someone to answer us, that's suspense. And that effect is what you should use when you tell stories, and when you do it with digital tools, you should use the platform's tool, or the platform's language, when you tell the story. And I think they did that really, really well. Then I thought about whether it would at all give more meaning to the story, and tell the same story on multiple platforms. We do that a lot with newspapers, desktops, mobile phones, to save some money and get the stories out to more people. But does it give any meaning at all, or do you just cut a hole here and a two there, and then you get a little 80% of it all? And then I went to see NASA, who has sent robots to Mars, or vehicles to Mars, and recorded a lot of things, and it's really fascinating what they can deliver from VR, AR, from Mars, and from all sorts of other places, and 360 degree videos that we can download and use in our productions, and all sorts of other things. And then they mentioned that they worked together, which was very American, they worked together with all these big companies, because NASA was not interested in making a platform. So they worked together with Google on Google Expeditions, and they thought that was cool. And they worked together with Facebook, who will be coming with Facebook Live 360 degrees in a bit, and they thought that was cool too, because think about if you could send 360 degree Facebook Live from Mars, that could be pretty crazy. And then they checked this Facebook Live to 360 degrees, and they wrote themselves, Consider including a host to act as a narrator for the experience, providing real-time guidance to your audience on where to look and how to engage with 360. And then I was a little disappointed, is this really where we've come to when we talk about 360 degrees and VR? Is it the plane on the wall and everything else, or do we need a guide? I just think that telling the form on other media is much, much longer, and I think that's the biggest challenge with VR and AR and 360 degrees. Then I went to see Mandy Mendelstein, who is a film maker, who has also worked with Arduino and projection mapping and interface design and sound design, and she was pretty crazy, and she talked about that, yes, yes, VR is not something long-term technical, but historically speaking, it's really far behind. Because we have actually spent many, many years on getting to where we are now. For example, it took the film 30 years to find the close-up. Until then, it was just a tableau, as if it was a picture. It was a piece of theatre that you took up on film. I think it was quite interesting that the technology is of course far ahead, but maybe we haven't even gotten there with storytelling. She mentioned her, Janet Murray, who said that eventually all successful storytelling mediums become transparent. We lose consciousness of the medium and see neither print nor film, but only the power of story itself. So the goal must be that the platform and technology disappear, and storytelling comes into focus. And that's of course what we're trying to do in our department, but it can be difficult sometimes when you're sitting with a mobile phone or a desktop computer, and you have to choose between different elements. I think it was quite interesting in terms of measuring or having a sense of when something is really well told. And she also said that in the middle of her day, she was a VR optimist, but that it was really sensitive in relation to the broad spectrum. If you're going to send a 360-degree video live to people, it's just really demanding. And she also thought that it was gear sensitive in the sense that there aren't that many of us who have a computer, and we're going to go out into a amusement park where people have put on VR equipment, and you have to wear shoes and everything to get the right experience. And it's like VR doesn't have a home yet. And I also found that quite interesting in terms of all the other platforms we have, all the other media we use, that they all have some kind of home. And then I was a little disappointed. Are we at all good at telling stories? And then I went in to see him here, who told about brain and behavior and storytelling. And he got me right in the cold cellar. So now the slice is black. He said that we are confirmation biased, and we know very well what that means. We are biased in terms of what we want to confirm all the time. He also said that we use motivated reasoning to remove the errors that may be in our reasoning. He also said that if you have facts and evidence, then it pushes people in the opposite direction. He had an example of some vaccine facts that pushed people even further into the corner of not wanting to vaccinate their children. And then he also meant, and it's another black slide, he meant that experts do not exist at all unless we agree with them. We actually only believe that people are experts if they agree with us. He also meant that being out singing with a group is extremely unpleasant, the limits to the physically unpleasant. And he also said that if you can't draw it, then it's too abstract, and then the concrete always wins. And we have seen it a couple of times in history, that those who suggest something that is very easy to understand, that can be drawn, they win. And then I'm really, at South by Southwest, I'm really out of the game. Can we at all influence anyone else with facts and history? And that's what I do, together with my team. And then I was in to see Upworthy and Ad Council, which was really an uplifting talk. And I said, if you just do these twelve things, characters, something that's in play, that should be authentic, that should be personal identification, that should be optimism and solution, if you work with data, then you should cut it down and make it simple. If you make a hero that everyone knows is a cartoon hero, then it doesn't work. You should get people to think for themselves. You should tell the characters' elements, you should fill in the blanks, so if you say something negative, you should at least fill it in with something positive. If you have some science, you should surprise with it. It should be facts and numbers that people come up with. And if you want to be a person who does something, then you just have to share a little bit, and then you have to end it with a good mood. So if you just do this, then it's fine. And then they had some examples, and here I would like to play a few videos, but I don't think there's time for that. But this campaign, I think you should check it out. It's a campaign that Ad Council has made, called I'm a Witness. And instead of making it, and it's about bullying among people, and instead of digital bullying, but I think that's what it's called, but instead of making a long campaign about not bullying each other, and trying to twist it in relation to target groups and stuff, and I think that reminds me a lot of what Zach said, the instructor, in relation to this series, they made an icon, an emoji, that people could use instead. So when you saw someone bullying each other, you could just send that emoji, which means, I see that you're being negative, or you're hurting others, and I don't think that's okay. And I think it was really elegant, that the whole campaign was an emoji. And then they made this one, which I think you should check out, it only takes a minute, which is about getting people, especially men, tested for, what is it, diabetes. And he walks around in this room, and he says, if you're a man, you should raise a finger, and then everyone else sits and raises a finger. If you don't exercise, you should raise two fingers. And then he pulls a chair down. If you have this body type, you should raise three fingers, and blah blah blah. So all this data they've had, they've cut down to, that he tells the audience, how many fingers I should raise before I get into the risk group. And in the end he says, if you have more than five fingers, then you should probably go to the doctor, and we'll check. So it was an enormously elegant solution. Yes, that was what I had with me about storytelling. I thought it was really exciting to be here. And I also hope that you got something out of it, to take it down, in relation to what VR might have, and doesn't have, in the future. Yes, thank you. Do we get any presentation? Yes, I'm happy to get the opportunity to say something here. We are the leadership of KPMG's New Tech Group. And I'm quite a bit of a fan of their staff. a little bit crazy scientist in a suit, who has that background and who is also educated in social intelligence. And for me to see, then the important thing here is of course, what is it really that is happening, what is the development we are entering into, and we were very oriented, we had five people over, to say, okay, is there something that we don't know, or something we think is extra exciting? And from our point of view, then it is again a combination of several different presentations. The first is, what is actually happening on the communication side, how do we communicate? And what is happening, I think it was a good quote that came here, if chat is the new browser, then bots are the new websites. Basically, there is no one who wants to use apps anymore, it is on the way to a complete painful death. And while that is happening, then chat and then messenger comes out big time, you are already probably many of you who use it, and it just gets even more, and why actually that? Yes, because there is no need for download. There is no need for learning something new, some new UIs, you can just go on messenger or twitter, where you are, and chat it loose. At the same time, you can have a bot that you can use, that can help you, and instead of building apps, then for example, Wall Street Journal, as an example here, they do of course what they do, they build bots. So you say, like WSJ bot, then you have your bot that always helps you, that always gives you news, and that you can talk to, for example, how is Trump doing? It is always a good question to ask, and then it comes back with some things, and says, okay, there are some new things, and he is once again accused of not being sick, and so on. The next thing that happens is, what about understanding? Because you say, computers understand nothing, and artificial intelligence is some kind of, you can say, blacksmith types, that just say, I'll be back, with Austrian accent. No, not necessarily. What happens here, is in reality, that artificial intelligence becomes better at understanding feelings than most people. And in any case, more bold. It does not take on Champions League, or what we should have for dinner. And here we have an example, where there is an interview. A well-known journalist, who interviews even more well-known Americans. And what you see happening down here, is that he tries to interpret, what is it really that is being said? I mean, what are the feelings that this person is expressing? And now you can follow the clip here. Mr. Trump, one of the things people love about you, is you speak your mind, and you don't use a politician's filter. However, that is not without its downsides, in particular, when it comes to women. And now it starts here. You call women you don't like fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals. That's her. Your Twitter account has several... Only Rosie O'Donnell. No, it wasn't. So you can see here a movement that is powerful, and that means that what we're going to see is a way to understand and function, and to be extremely aware, and actually learn in ways that you wouldn't have thought possible before. But not enough with the fact that technology becomes human, but we also become technology, and there were a lot of examples of that, and you've seen some of the previous ones here, I'm sure, while I was stuck in traffic. What happens is that technology can sharpen our senses, and we become more and more cyborgs. And this is an example from hearables, where you talk a lot about these wearables and VR and so on. But VR is also about hearing. And there were good examples of hearables, where you can get, for example, now we have one called here, and you can turn it on, and then you're able to adjust your attention to something, so you can adjust your attention, and then I can hear what you're saying back there, this little remark about that it's also going to hurt your foot, and you're also going to go home and eat pizza. And the answer is, it really modifies, so while I'm talking to a person, so while I'm talking to a person, I can get extra information about that person. So when I'm in a conversation, there's just going to be some extra information that says, hey, what the guest is saying now, it indicates that the guest is interested in this and that. So that information comes in, remember to provide a real credit loan, so whatever, if you're in that industry. But you know, it can also be something else you just have to provide while you're on the way. And in general, when we talk about Beyond Verbal, it's quite interesting to see, can you say, their take on it, it's, have now Beyond Verbal running while you're having a conversation on a date. Because all that with you not understanding what the other person is saying, well, that Beyond Verbal is on, right? Disguised hostility comes in, okay, then I'd rather watch out. No, but... In any case, what does apps mean? Chat, of course, is the dominant thing. The next thing is the bots we're talking about. Because bots come in and are able to create that space. They're able to give that feedback. They can do it 24-7. And they can actually understand us properly. So at the moment we're chatting, it will go on semantic check and check what's coming up. Here, there are some emojis that indicate that the guest is tired and the guest is exhausted. Or there are some comments that say, for example, this is the nation that's talking. It might be that I should just watch the way I'm communicating. They react to our feelings, and not enough with that. But they can actually just illude people. And maybe, it's a bit rough, but not more or less, maybe they'll actually become better at being human than we are. In any case, it will always be possible for them to be all the time attentive. It's typically a virtual assistant that can take 25,000 conversations simultaneously. And everyone is in depth. And everyone the guest is talking to feels that it's exactly the person the guest is talking to. 25,000 deep conversations. And there's nothing to think about the pizza that's going to be in the oven. Or whether the guest is now a traitor or something like that. It's just, it just goes right in. And the last thing is that as the technology becomes more human than us, we become more and more technology. So we merge more and more together with the technology.
