My name is Rune Mikkelsen. I'm a partner in WeLoveVideo. We are a small video company doing production to help companies making some of this online video content. And we're also having a lot of courses and workshops, and then we do some strategy. But later in the schedule today, we will tell a little bit about our work. But I'm here today to talk about the more practical part of doing live productions, because I will walk the talk. My presentation is on this smartphone. I've changed the... I don't think you are... It's okay with you that I've changed this into smartphone, because it might be that some of you don't have an iPhone. But okay, I have a small agenda, and I would start talking a little bit overall about mobile video and why this is a booming market right now. Simple tips for recording. And then, of course, I brought some accessories that I will stick to in a little while. And then I will talk about how to use actually the mobile phone for live productions. But to start off, mobile video is booming. We can really feel that and we hear that when we go out with our customers to help them. During the last year, I think we have educated more than 100 video journalists doing video recordings with their mobile phones. And that's because a lot of them ask, why can't we just use our mobile phones, our iPads doing all these recordings? And the answer is, of course you can. And that's not because I don't like high-end productions with real cameras. I love our own cameras. And I think that this is a question about both. I believe that this market is both this high-end production, but I also think that these mobile phones will change the way that we use and produce video, I'm sure. But which kind of thing is nice to produce with actually just a telephone? A lot of our customers, as I mentioned before, are media companies. And as we can see, there are four mobile genres that are really growing right now. Actually, we have named one of them, it's better in Danish, CitySkateTV. Because in a bad translation, it would be like, what should happen TV? But what we see actually a lot of these media companies doing with their iPhones or smartphones are filming these highlight clips. Thomas was talking about this clip culture as well. And we really believe that, of course, that's easy to do with your mobile phone instead of the big setup with camera and home and with the workflow to the computer and etc. So this is really a genre that is popular with your mobile. Another one is this one, talking heads. We see them all over. All of you have probably watched a lot of talking heads on the internet. And a lot of our customers ask, why should we always use the big camera, the big setup, and put it into the editing software afterwards before we publish it, when we can do it all from our phones? And that's true. I don't have exactly the answer for this question because we know that, that you can very easily edit a talking head on your phone and put it directly up and share it with anyone. So I think that this genre will be very big on mobile phones as well. The third genre is a growing genre overall on the internet, how to videos. And a lot of these are produced as well with small iPhones or how to videos like how to tie a tie. It's very easy to produce and it's even better than writing the article. I wouldn't. So I think this is another third genre that we will see much more and much more produced on these small devices. And then of course, those live because it has become easy and cheap. And as you already did the present earlier today twice, now we have the workflow and the apps that actually can do the production of these live events from our mobile phones. And I will return to that in the very end. But what should we know about producing? This is not a camera. But even though it's still filming in HD and every time we get a new version of our smartphone, we know that the image quality will be better and the software, the apps that we actually can edit and will be better. So but there are some tips that I think is worth mentioning here in this forum. Sometimes when we are talking about this, we have several hours. So this will be quick. So I've cut it down to six recording tips. But since you are in this branch as well, I'm sure that some of it is common sense for you as well. Do your recordings hurriedly and that's of course because as we saw earlier today, the player on the computer is of course in 16.9 and it looks just much more better than this one where you will get these black areas on each side of the recordings. So this is the right way and this is the user generated content. Go close. And that's not only a tip for recordings for smartphones. The approach to this is that online video is often seen as just a little piece of a big screen. There's a lot of context, contextual content around. So that means that each image and each frame is not as big as if we saw it on this pretty big screen. So that actually means something about how you should frame your pictures or your recordings. Be aware of lighting on location. That's something that you need to think about because one of the bad, one of two bad things with these mobile devices right now is that they are not as strong when they have bad lights. If we went out in the sunlight or the daylight, that would be no problem. Sometimes we would actually have difficulty to see between a camera, a cheap camera and a mobile recording. But when we are in these surroundings, where is the good light in this location? It's not. So go outside. So that's something we use a lot of time talking about. It's finding the good locations with the good lighting. Oh, now I talk too much. The next one is be aware of the audio and the sounds on your location as well, because the built-in microphone, yes, it's pretty good if you're close, but just a simple wind could damage your whole recording. So that's something and why I very soon will open my suitcase. Then, of course, there's smooth motion. I think a lot of you already have did a lot of recordings, but it's a little awkward, this fourth finger. And it is difficult. But so when I write support, it is to use these small tricks like finding some physical support and try to use the environment around you to keep steady recordings and smooth motions. And then the very last one is that's important. I almost finished a long interview with a professor for the health industry, and then my phone rang. And that's bad. When you are doing the recording on your phone, it's pretty important that you turn it on to flight mode, because then there will be no data or incoming call or push notifications or emails or SMS or what it could be. So remember that. Accessories for the mobile. Of course, you've probably already seen this. This tripod is not only nice to have. I think if you should do this mobile video recordings, that is something you need to invest in. And one of them is a nice tripod. I saw that you already got this. That's a start. And actually, now you have the head. But all of you today got this this little grip with the mount. So now you're already started. But a nice tripod is a need to have. But even more need to have, I think, is things, accessories that can increase the production value according to the sound. And this is a jungle out there. There are so many different kinds of types of equipment according to sound and light that you could buy. And some of it is very cheap and very bad. And some of it is very nice. This is a typical little clips microphone that you can plug in the headphone and then you have a far better sound than than at least in the built in microphone. But the killer accessory right now, I think when it comes to audio, this is the one. This is a little preamp. Some of you maybe know what that means. But when I put this in the end of my my smartphone, I actually will be able to put any professional XLR based microphone into this. So that means that I could actually do live interviews or interviews in the field with a very nice sound. I can adjust it in the front and easy for me. And I know that I actually will come home with nice sounds. And even better actually is that it opens up the possibility for me to put in a microport. And then I'm suddenly wireless. Some of you that already have access to to to equipment like this. Then it's only to to order this in a web shop or in maybe four sound or some of these music stores around. So that's a really nice one as well. Not maybe need to have, but anyway, some that I know a lot of video journalists use a lot today is this little grip. I don't want to switch, but you can probably already notice what I'm doing. If I did like this, it would be far more easy for me to make smooth motions and and actually do some recordings that is not shaky and to hand help to to get a better production value. Yeah, today we are celebrating 23 live app and and and I think and that's not because you invited me. I think really I've tried it out for several. I think it's very, very nice and I love the thing that is integrated in the system about before and during enough that's that's something very new and something that that the one that uses the system will be very happy about. But it's not brand new that we can produce live without you to respect it because all of you probably know the the little app called Bambooza. You know that OK, yeah, it's all it's it's kind of the same because already in 2008, Bambooza, the company made it possible for us to to stream live with our smartphones or mobile devices. It has a big breakthrough when the Egyptian revolution were were were on the highest level. Bambooza was very popular and a lot of citizen reporters used that for filming what actually was going on. So this is just to mention that you are not alone on this market. And I think it's in these days, it's very important to get inspired and to show to find out what other people are doing. Thomas also mentioned today the two news things about these live production. Some of you are familiar with me a cat and periscope. Now we have talked a little bit about it these days. Some of you using this. Yeah, OK, some of you are using this. I think the very interesting thing about this development is, of course, the social dimension that is actually built in in the while the recording is going on and that the that the target screen more is to the smartphones themselves than to the desktop as we have seen a lot of examples on here, because I think that's that's something we will see much more. Actually, we know now that almost 50 percent of each video clip on YouTube is actually seen on a mobile device. So that that makes this interaction and this social things that you can add by using the iPhone as a score. The iPad as a screen is, of course, very interesting to see. And. But so actually I would end up because I thought actually I should turn on the 23 live app, but you are already seen this several times before this. This is how it looks when you are just about to broadcast live. And I like the very simple interface. It's easy to use. And in very good image quality, I saw that earlier this morning myself because I couldn't attend in Denmark's larger. So so I think I would look forward to to watch what what you are using this new brand new app for. My last word would be like that. I really, really think that this meeting between mobile and video and live is something that will will make a revolution for the way that we use and produce video. And I I would like to talk to you much more about this in the break or maybe now. I don't know how many minutes we are left. We do have a few minutes. OK, but thank you for your time.
